Western Extralite Sells Business to Border States Electric

Kansas City, MO-based Western Extralite has been acquired by Border States Electric. Western Extralite is an employee-owned electrical supply company that has more than 250 employees. It was founded in 1938, and currently operates in 19 locations throughout Kansas and Missouri. The company now stocks more than 13,000 products and has annual sales are estimated at $130 million.

Border States Electric, also employee-owned, is located in North Dakota. The company will move a regional office and two employees currently in Texas, to Kansas City. It is the eight-largest electrical distributor in the U.S.

Western Extralite will keep its name, but will be considered a division of Border States Electric. Western Extralite employees will become employee-owners of Border States.
