Cross-training employees in multiple areas of the business will minimize the negative effects of employee defections before and after a sale. If the business is dependent on one or two employees, a buyer may want to speak with them prior to a sale. The buyer may attempt to tie part of the sale price to the employees being retained for a period of time post-close. Sellers can avoid this by cross-training in advance.
