Deffenbaugh Sells Business to Waste Management

Waste Management Inc. and aPriori Capital Partners have acquired the business of Kansas City, MO-based Deffenbaugh. Waste Management is headquartered in Houston, and to-date has had a limited reach into the Kansas City area. Private equity firm aPriori is located in New York.

Deffenbaugh Industries was founded in 1957. The company has about 1,000 employees, with 700 being in the Kansas City area. It is estimated that Deffenbaugh currently handles about 45% of Kansas City’s waste management.

The purchase included all assets, real estate and outstanding stock. In addition to the trash-hauling business, Deffenbaugh owns the Johnson County waste landfill located In Shawnee, two material recovery facilities, seven transfer stations and a construction and demolition landfill.

Terms of the acquisition were not released.
