Cerner Makes $1.3 Billion Acquisition

Kansas City-based Cerner Corp has purchased Siemens Health Services for a selling price of $1.3 billion cash. Both companies sell health care information technology for patient records at hospitals, doctors’ offices and other health care facilities. The Siemens business is being sold by parent company SiemensAG.

The combined companies will employ about 20,000 people in more than 30 countries. Cerner currently has about 14,000 employees, with 9,600 being in Kansas City. Together, the companies will have $4.5 billion in annual revenue. Cerner will continue to support Siemens Health Services software platforms for at least 10 years after the acquisition.
