AMC Entertainment Holdings, Inc. of Leawood, KS will acquire Carmike Cinemas of Columbus, OH, in a $1.2 billion deal. The acquisition will make AMC the largest theater chain in the US.
This morning, Carmike stockholders approved the deal, which will likely close by the end of the year. The deal still must be approved by the US Justice Department so some theaters may have to be sold because of antitrust issues.
According the Adam Aron, AMC CEO, the acquisition will mean more job opportunities in the Kansas City area.
