Summit Custom Homes of Kansas City, Missouri, has sold to Clayton Properties, a subsidiary of Berkshire Hathaway.

On Oct. 31, Clayton Properties acquired all of the operating assets of Summit Custom Homes, which include approximately 1,200 lots in the Kansas City metropolitan area. Summit Custom Homes was founded in 2002 and is the largest homebuilder in Kansas City.

“As we expand our site-built operations, acquiring companies like Summit Custom Homes, which is a leader in its market, is a crucial part of our strategy,” Keith Holdbrooks, president of Clayton home building group, said. “We’re excited to welcome Summit’s 54 team members to the Clayton family, and look forward to building high-quality homes in the Kansas City area.”

The Clayton home building group, a Berkshire Hathaway subsidiary, first entered the site-built business in the fall of 2015 with the purchase of 81 lots in Atlanta. The company recently sold its 500th site built home this past month. When seeking partners, Clayton Properties seeks companies whose values, goals and cultures align with its own.

“Summit Custom Homes puts a large focus on extraordinary customer and team member experience,” said Holdbrooks. “This is also a huge priority for Clayton as we aim to provide an excellent experience in both the home buying journey and in building a strong culture among Clayton team members.”

“We are proud to join the Clayton team,” said Fred Delibero, CEO of Summit Custom Homes. “Both companies share a passion for building a best-in-class product, delivering an outstanding customer experience, fostering a family-focused rewarding workplace for our team members and a commitment to community involvement. Our partnership with Clayton will allow Summit to build upon an already successful track record as the leading new home builder in Kansas City and accelerate our growth, both locally and regionally, all while maintaining our brand identity and existing team.”
