Associated Wholesale Grocers to Acquire Iowa-based Grocery Chain

Kansas City, KS-based AWG has announced that it will acquire Dahl’s Foods, Inc. Dahl’s Foods is headquartered in Des Moines, IA. The company recently closed three stores and filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy. It still operates 10 stores in Iowa, and reported $136.8 million in sales for the last fiscal year.
AWG is an $8.4 billion cooperative that serves more than 3,000 member stores under the Price Chopper, Thriftway, IGA, CashSaver, Apple Market, Country Mart and Sun Fresh banners. It is the nation’s second-largest, retailer-owned grocery wholesaler. AWG plans to remodel and update the 10 Iowa stores and to build a new brand and identity for Dahl’s.
The selling price was $4.8 million.
